I feel that the MOVE family, the MOVE family and their soldiers, our Prisoner of War, are essential part of our fight for justice, and should be included in every activity, in every community, on every level. Just remember, it’s not just one thing. It’s everything –The May 13, 1985 bombing and the murder of the MOVE family — This city of Philadelphia — hypocrisy has no limit. This nation hypocrisy has no limit. This government’s the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today. This nation must turn from the mad pursuit of racism to pursue a moral integrity.
I myself must move to break the portrayal of my own silence and to speak from the burning of my heart. I have called for a radical movement for the support of the MOVE family. The war on the MOVE family is immoral. The immorality of the war on the MOVE family, which is married to the immorality of the materialism, poverty and racism. A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplifting: this nation is approaching spiritual death.
It is up to you. It is up to the people. Ramona Africa, Pam Africa, Lynn Stewart, Mumia and I, the Reverend Edward Pinckney, to make our fellow citizens see this other side of America. In your great numbers, America, lies great hope. But mass protests must not end here. We must move from the word to deed. We must go back to our community and organize against racism and poverty. We must support the MOVE family. Black people, white people, must begin to organize our community for control by the people against exploitation.
Exploitation and racism do not exist only in this nation’s foreign policy, but right here in the streets of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Chicago, Illinois, New York, New York, Detroit, Michigan and Philadelphia. John Africa teaches that we are only defeated when we concede defeat and stop fighting back. As long as we keep fighting and keep resisting and not allowing them to take us down; fighting back on whatever level, we are not defeated.
Never give up. Never give in. Remember, it is not just one thing. It is everything. Fight back my fellow warriors. Fight back, my fellow warrior. Fight back, and we can win. And on that note, I just want to say to the to the MOVE family, that the residents in Benton Harbor, Michigan, love you, and we’re going to continue to fight for you and stand behind you, and anytime you need us, you know we’re here for you, and we love you, love you, love you very much. The Reverend Edward Pinckney. Thank you so much.
