Hi, it’s Larry Stromberg, SCI Phoenix in Pennsylvania. My poem is entitled “The Prison Dramatist.”
The Prison Dramatist
Incarcerated for a terrible choice.
Overwhelming remorse.
Unfortunately, the past can’t be changed.
It’s written in history.
For him, the future can have a purpose
With writing, acting, directing,
And staging his plays in prison.
Now, decades and decades in,
He has become the prison dramatist
With staging over 100 plays in the penitentiary,
With each theatrical production
Bringing forth messages of hope,
Accountability, responsibility,
Faith with mercy
Even behind the steel bars, concrete, and razor wire.
Let the prison stage portray freedom for all to experience,
Even in the cage darkness,
To find the true light of redemption.
