The 2016 elections for the United States presidency was truly a nail-biter that went down to the wire to determine the winner. But in the end, Donald J. Trump seized electoral victory and has now become President-Elect Donald J. Trump.
Most people are baffled as to who would vote for a classist, racist, misogynist, xenophobic presidential candidate like Donald Trump, and why. Well, only an evaluation of national exit polls can give a clear picture to answer that question.
According to the National Election Pool Survey by Edison Research, Americans voted accordingly across the United States of America:
53% of men voted for Trump, and 54% of women voted for Hillary, exposing a gender gap indicating that the majority of men probably did not want to see a woman as president.
58% of Caucasians voted for Trump while 88% of Black, 65% of Latino, 65% of Asian, and 57% of other ethnic Americans voted overwhelmingly for Hillary. Hillary Clinton swept minority voters by a more than 2:1 margin.
59% of city areas voted for Hillary, while 50% of suburban areas and 62% of small city/rural areas voted for Trump.
52% of Americans with an income of less than $50,000 voted for Hillary, and 48% of Americans with an income of more than $50,000 voted for Trump.48% of Independents voted for Trump, while 47% of Independents voted for Hillary. Hillary Clinton lost the Independents’ vote by one percentage point.
51% of high school graduates and 52% of Americans with some college voted for Trump, while 49% of college graduates and 58% of post-graduates voted for Hillary.
And finally, 56% of millennials (ages 18-39) voted for Hillary and 52% of Baby Boomers (ages 40-65+) voted for Trump.
The national surveys show that Hillary Clinton was defeated mostly by a huge outpouring of angry, change-seeking, enthusiastic, rural, non-college educated, mid-income/job insecure, older Caucasian men and women throughout the country.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton were so detached from everyday American people, and millennials in particular, that they refused to recognize the mood of the American people against Establishment candidates and for wanting a change in politics. Unfortunately for the DNC and Hillary Clinton, the Republicans’ grass roots got it, and dragged their Republican party kicking and screaming along the way to victory into the White House.

![Prison Radio is sharing an abbreviated version of a press release covering recent racist incidents at SCI Rockview in PA and the organizing to demand accountability. We are reaching out to people incarcerated at Rockview as well as recently transferred folks, inviting them to call, in hopes of hearing commentaries from them.
Benner Township, PA.-
On November 24th, 2023, imprisoned people at SCI Rockview found two nooses hanging in the CO’s office, displayed visibly for many prisoners to see. When the prisoners asked the staff why the nooses were hung, they were told it was a joke.
By December 4th, prisoners filed a grievance to document what they saw, noting that the hanging of the nooses was “unethical, racially motivated, hateful, [a] deliberate debasement of black inmates" and “unsafe for inmates, staff, [and] the whole prison in general.” In the grievance, they demanded that Sgt. Mosser and CO Richard be fired and investigated for a hate crime, and for CO Kirchner to get therapy. Captain Andrews, the head of security, denied the grievance.
The sergeant and COs are still working in the prison to this day, with no repercussions...
As of March 10th, prisoners have reached out to Pennsylvania officials at the Dept. of Corrections in a letter campaign, sending 100 copies of the grievance. Copies of the letter also were mailed to Governor Shapiro, Senator Fetterman, Senator Street, and various advocacy groups. The demands for relief in the original grievance have now become the platform of demands for this campaign. About 20 of the 100 letters were withheld by the prison.
Activists on the outside are joining forces with prisoners to elevate their demands, flooding the phone lines of DOC offices, assisting with outreach to media, and circulating the stories of prisoners who have found unity in opposition to the facility's virulent institutional racism.
In any other workplace, hanging a noose would be grounds for immediate termination. However, Nicki Paul, the superintendent's assistant and "grievance coordinator" informed the public that they self-investigated their staff and found they did nothing wrong.
