#C-65304, 4 EB 82 San Quentin State Prison, San Quentin, CA 94964

Kevin Cooper is a writer and artist who has been on Death Row in California since 1985. He was wrongly convicted of the murders of a white family in a climate of racial hatred, and since his conviction has been working both on his own case and on abolishing the death penalty. In 2009, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit denied Kevin Cooper’s appeal, but five judges issued an historic dissent, stating that, “The State of California may be about to execute an innocent man.”  On July 26, 2015, an episode of CNN’s “Death Row Stories” explored how Kevin Cooper was framed by the San Bernardino County Sherriff’s Department and District Attorney. Kevin regularly publishes commentaries with Prison Radio, as well as essays and artwork on his website, .
