It’s 1933

Greetings!

These times are just like “Germany in 1933.” That is what our comrades in Germany had to say regarding Trump, rising ICE aggression, and mounting right wing forces in the USA.

We heard this everywhere and it was chilling. Our future is the balance.

Last week we traveled to Berlin with Saleem Holbrook, Executive Director of the Abolitionist Law Center, to deliver an address from Mumia Abu-Jamal and participate in the annual Rosa Luxemburg conference.

Listen to Mumia’s address to the Rosa Luxemburg conference.

There were 3,500 people in attendance, and estimated 35,000 tuning in online!

Additionally, we participated on panels at Mumia Committee Berlin info shop and the German American Center in Heidelberg. We spoke on mass incarceration, providing legal and health updates on Mumia Abu-Jamal, and reflecting on the impact of living under ICE terror. Thank you to the Berlin hosts Gabs, Anton, and a half dozen dedicated organizers.

Train delays and getting a call from Mumia while whizzing through the German country side was thrilling. We made it to Heidelberg. Thank you to our hosts Annette and Michael Schiffman.

We powered through overcoming travel obstacles. Our visit to Germany was critical to continuing to expand and develop international support.

After our plane flight was first delayed a day and then cancelled from the US due to mechanical issues we made a decision to purchase new, same-day tickets. It was that important to get there.

While our original tickets were refunded we still had to purchase three brand-new, costly, same-day tickets to Berlin. We were out of pocket $4,123.00. We have travel insurance, but it is unlikely to cover the whole cost. And we made a decision, that it was critical to get to the conference – we hope you agree.

Can you pitch in? And help cover the extra expenses?

Pictured below are just a few of our incredible comrades in Germany. Some grew up in the movement and some have been advocating for Mumia Abu-Jamal for decades. Their solidarity is inspiring.

In the darkest hours Rosa Luxemburg wrote from her cell, “The world is beautiful with all its horrors.”

She reminds us that hope is not passive, it is forged in collective courage. And we must refuse to surrender one another. In this moment of “Germany 1933” with resurgent right-wing forces, repression and political imprisonment, we stand with Mumia, with all our politicized correspondents, and with the victims of ICE aggression.

We stand with the silenced.

From Berlin and beyond, let us heed the rallying cry: “Free Mumia! Keep fighting!”

When we love we win,

When we survive we win,

When we fight we win,

Rosa Luxemburg was a revolutionary who played a central role in the German and international socialist movements in the early 20th century. Known for her insistence on working class solidarity, she was imprisoned and assassinated in Berlin in 1919. The 1/10/26 conference we attended produced by Junge Welt, the daily newspaper, is annually held in her honor.
