Through all of these missives, a call for freedom is a constant thread.

Any time you shake your head about underfunded social services, healthcare, public schools, and transportation, remember the resources diverted to this massive prison apparatus. Our correspondents give us a glimpse over the giant concrete prison walls into the human beings living on the other side.

This winter, we need to raise $125,000. All that money goes towards keeping the phone lines open, putting gas in my car to visit Mumia, to pay our legal fees to bring him home, to continue the efforts bring Marvin "Shaka" Walker home, to commission beautiful art such as the Women Huron Valley postcards, and so many other expenses.

Drove up rt. 100 in rural PA north of Allentown to see Mumia. yesterday. The Frackville gas station still sells bags of coal. This prison is a brutal, one of the most restrictive in the state. People in here, spend more time in, locked down than out. For instance in SCI Phoenix, with a death row, they are only locked in to their cells for count. They are out in gen pop. Mumia is out just a few times a day, day room or yard, but a yard that is canceled for fog, rain, snow, or just because. The rest of the time he is in a cramped 11 by 7 foot cell; with 18 inches between the bunk and wall, 22 hrs a day. Good lord. We need freedom, freedom, freedom. Also we fought to have these pictures- they were going prevent us from taking them on legal visits- but we prevailed. Humanity is resistance. Mumia's comments "We have got to flip this pancake" meaning the terrible proposed PCRA Judge Clemons decision.

Krystal Clark, our correspondent reporting from Wo

Krystal Clark, our correspondent reporting from Women’s Huron Valley about the gross medical neglect, guard abuse, and tragic deaths of fellow inmates, has finally received good news. Her case is going to be reviewed by a parole board, granting her a chance at freedom and receiving the medical attention she needs. But we need to write in personal letters of support, both to Krystal at WHV and the MDOC Office of Parole. These letters will contribute to whether or not Krystal will be released.

The letters should address Krystal’s health issues, speak to her character as someone who is willing to support her fellow inmates in face of retribution from the guards. Listening to her commentaries will give you a sense of her courage and strength.

We have been receiving outcries from Huron Valley for over a year now, initially reporting on the lack of COVID-19 preventative measures and overcrowded living conditions.

Reports quickly covered a myriad of other problems such as black mold, deaths by neglect and suicide, physical and verbal abuses by staff, intimidation, and much more.

By bringing focusing public attention onto the horrors occurring behind the prison bars of Women’s Huron Valley, we demonstrated that people power can affect change. Lets bring Krystal home, and continue to fight to improve the horrible conditions of WHV and prisons everywhere.

Noelle's reaction to denying Mumia a new trial.

Mumia Abu-Jamal has spent 42 years in prison for the death of Philadelphia Police officer Daniel Faulkner on Dec. 9th 1981. He has maintained his innocence and has sought his freedom by appealing to the very courts that now seek to preserve his unjust and unconstitutional conviction. At age 67 he has spent 42 years in prison.

Mumia Abu-Jamal is a broadcast journalist and internationally recognized author. Mr. Abu-Jamal is serving a life sentence at SCI Mahanoy in Pennsylvania. He is the author of 13 books, holds a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature and is currently working on the requirements to complete a PhD in the History of Consciousness Department at University of California Santa Cruz.

We must continue to fight for justice and bring Mumia home.
