An African-American historian who currently holds the John J. and Rebecca Moores Chair of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston. After undergraduate education at Princeton University he received his PhD from Columbia University and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a frequent contributor to Political Affairs magazine. He has authored 30 books including "The Counter-Revolution of 1776: The Slave Resistance and the Origins of the United States.
