Okay, this is Larry Stromberg, and today I’m going to perform my poem called “Caged.”
Caged, frozen as the world spins.
Caged for all my sins.
Incarceration has consumed my soul,
I’m living in the regretful hole.
Endured the pain,
Lightning, struggle,
Sparking the fire within
Incarcerated forever,
Concrete walls closing in.
Consuming, suffocating remorse.
Prison sentence spinning,
Round and round we go.
The wheel life arrives,
Another convict dies in the cage.
The memorial is posted on the wall.
Only a few really care.
Drug addict it may seize,
Robbing to feed their urge,
Just a temporary fix
Death in the system,
Mayhem out of control,
Here comes the lockdown.
I remember my childhood:
Siblings, joy, memories
Embedded into my brain.
Matters of faith,
Praying to the above,
Day and night.
Educational well being,
Changing the pages of life,
Even with decades of incarceration.
Keen judgmental eyes,
They make the world a dark place…

Keen judgmental eyes,
They make the world a dark place,
Illuminate peace.
I’ve made many mistakes in my life
The consequences are so very real
Learn from me,
The prison highway,
Losing time of life.
Will I make it back home?
Awaiting transition,
A universal order to the grave and beyond.
I’m caged no more.
All right, thank you, that was “Caged” and this is Larry Stromberg, SCI Phoenix
