This is Jane Dorotik, and I’m calling for the California Institution for Women. This is “Occupy for Prisoners.”
The prison system is a system gone awry, gravely compromised and rampant with abuses. It’s a terrifying breeding ground for anger, hatred, sexism, homophobia, and dominating exploitation of other human beings; who are warehousing people, and then returning them to society worse off than when they entered the system. And, lest we forget, 90% of all prisoners return to their communities carrying with them all the anger, hatred, abuses and communicable diseases they acquired behind bars. Violence that then comes out of these prisons is a much greater threat to real public safety than any foreign terrorist group could ever be.
