Larry Stromberg

Hi, everybody. This is Larry Stromberg, SCI Phoenix, in Pennsylvania. Today I’m gonna do a short play called “The Curves.” It’s a play about mental health issues. So hope you enjoy.

The Curves

My name is not important to know. It’s not. I’ve been diagnosed with full blown schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other mental health issues. My parents, they put me up for adoption. They didn’t want me. I was a disgrace to them. They abandoned me.

My adoptive parents, they, they beat me. They beat me, and starved me. They raped me over and over again. They put me in a closet in the dark. I couldn’t, I couldn’t, I couldn’t. I couldn’t take it anymore. I couldn’t take it anymore. This happened for years. Couldn’t take it, that’s why I ended up with a double homicide. I had to do it. I’m sorry, sorry, I had to do it. I’m sorry.

At the institution, I tried to kill myself. I sliced my wrist see, but the doctors, nurses orderlies, psychiatrists, they stopped me. They saved me. They said, “You need to live. You being mentally ill isn’t your fault.” They said, “It’s just a curve thrown your way in life.”

I’m doing much better now. I’m in therapy, on medication. I want to live. I have a purpose. I know God loves me. He loves us all. So embrace the curves in your life. They have a purpose. They have a reason. You are loved, my friends. Never forget that. You are loved.

This was “The Curves”. Thank you. This is Larry Stromberg, and God bless you all.
