Larry Stromberg

This is Larry Stromberg. Today’s poem is entitled, “What Went Wrong.” It’s from a prompt from our poetry class here at SCI Phoenix. The prompt was a sonic prompt, so…

What went wrong?
Wrong: twisted, not in accordance with justice, law, morality, etc.
Not suitable or appropriate.
Contrary to fact, mistaken.
Not functioning properly; in wrong manner, direction.
An unjust, immoral or illegal act.
To treat badly or unjustly.
Webster’s New World Dictionary.
What went wrong?
What went wrong?
Blue skies gazing into the horizon.
My memories grasp the thoughts from within,
Thinking of the vanishing past gone by.
What went wrong with all the relationships held dear to my heart?
Pouring rain flowing from the eyes of sorrow,
Regret consumes the soul that seems hollow.
Selfish monsters are as real as the booming thunders of war,
Rising into the same shame of Hell, you see.
Death comes with every thought of remorse.
Something is wrong with the existence of life.
It seems beautiful on the surface, heading into misery.
Drink from repentance, accept the purpose to be forgiven.
With each new sunrise comes the opportunity to find truth,
Or to take arms against the seas of troubles.
What went wrong?

It’s Larry Stromberg, thank you so much.
