Dear
Action Alert: Mumia Abu-Jamal’s sight is still at serious risk.
As of March 2026, Mumia Abu-Jamal has not received critical treatment for diabetic retinopathy and aggressive glaucoma — two serious eye conditions that if left untreated can lead to irreversible blindness.
Mumia was completely blind for 9 months in 2025. When, his post cataract blindness was finally addressed, with a simple inexpensive procedure that takes 5 seconds, his vision in one eye was restored.
During this campaign, the community and legal pressure for treatment, and the retention of an expert for Mumia, revealed that he has serious additional conditions diabetic retinopathy and severe glaucoma; that require immediate proactive treatment.
Every day that passes without specialist care increases the risk that the vision he has left will be lost — possibly forever.
The Pennsylvania Dept of Corrections (PA DOC) and Wellpath its health care provider must get Mumia Abu-Jamal to specialist who can make a treatment plan.
This week and every week we must raise our voices.
Your actions matter: Call. Email. Write.
We ask the public to resume calls, emails, and letters to SCI Mahanoy (the prison) and the Secretary of the PA DOC this week.
Operation hours are Monday thru Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm Eastern Standard Time.
