Alfred Woodfox Transferred As He Awaits Bail Decision Awaiting a decision to be released on bail, Alfred Woodfox, the remaining prisoner of the Angola 3, has being held in isolation at West Feliciana Parish Detention Center, a small city jail. Woodfox, along with Herman Wallace and Robert King, were sentenced to life in prison for the death of a prison guard. The case against the Angola 3 was profoundly flawed: there was no physical evidence linking them to the murder, and the prosecution was riddled with extensively documented procedural errors. Living for nearly 40 years in the reprehensible conditions of solitary confinement, Woodfox maintains that the Angola 3 were put in solitary confinement in retaliation for their affiliation with the Black Panther Party.Send Alfred Woodfox an uplifting message! Philadelphia DA sues Gov. WolfOver the Death Penalty MoratoriumDistrict Attorney (DA) Seth Williams, who is flirting with a run for Senate, threw a fit over the recent Death Penalty Moratorium by filing a 25 page legal challenge on Wednesday February 18th.  Williams has taken umbrage to Gov. Wolf’s determination to issue reprieves and claims that “The governor’s supposed reprieve is flagrantly unconstitutional, and should be declared by this court to be null, void, and absolutely without legal effect.” A statement from Wolf’s office maintains the constitutionality of the moratorium claiming that Pennsylvania’s system of capital punishment is “ineffective, expensive, and many times unjust.”The moratorium couldn’t have come at a better time for Terrence Williams, who was scheduled for execution on March 4th. Referred to by the nickname “Butter” in Mumia Abu-Jamal’s 2012 commentary, Mumia explains that Williams, 18 years old at the time of his sentencing, had kept the secret of his sexual abuse quiet when he went to trial for the murder of his tormentors. |
