Prison Radio

Jakhi is ours and we will not let him be disappeared

“Our greatest strength is each other.”

-Jakhi McCray

Greetings!

Jakhi McCray, former Prison Radio volunteer, is facing a formidable life challenge. At just 22 years of age he is up against serious charges for his participation in protest activities in late 2023. During his time volunteering at Prison Radio he helped us convert recorded essays into text, engaging the direct experiences and words of our incarcerated correspondents. He understands with piercing clarity what he is up against. Facing this Jakhi is resolved. He says, “I will never stop fighting, and I will do my best wherever I find myself to be.”

Read and listen to his full letter here.

It is heartbreaking to watch history echo, to see a new generation of courageous young people facing arrest and imprisonment for the same convictions that defined those who came before them.

We offer this statement of support:

We know the struggle for liberation endures even though it continues to be met with the same machinery of punishment, as if nothing has been learned and nothing has changed. However, Jakhi reminds us of the importance of solidarity and perseverance: “We are comrades and with that comes a promise to love, defend, and fight for one another. Because you are my comrades, I hold this promise towards all of you.”

Please join us in supporting Jakhi and keep his name on the forefront of our movements for justice.
