Urgent phone zap on Tuesday, July 28th, for Maricela Rueda!

Maricela Rueda is a new correspondent at Prison Radio. One of the Prairieland defendants, she was prosecuted for her involvement in the July 4, 2025 protest outside the Prairieland ICE Detention Center in Texas.

For protesting, Mari was sentenced to 70 years in federal prison – a shocking punishment reflecting the escalating criminalization of protest and dissent in the United States.

Maricela is being held in solitary at the Johnson County Jail in Texas and is suffering from isolation, restricted communication, invasive searches, and the constant effort by the prison system to strip away her dignity and humanity.

No one should face this alone.

I am calling to demand that Maricela Rueda be released from administrative segregation and be returned to general population immediately.

Maricela is being constantly strip searched to the point where she is afraid to bathe or go outside.

She is transported across the facility in heavy shackles to visit her lawyer in a room full of cameras and guards where she can’t even take notes due to the handcuffs.

Due to being in segregation, she is forced to be observed twice a week by the person, LCSW White, who threatened her with a suicide watch cell for invoking her right to have counsel present.

Maricela is fighting for her life and her future.

Keeping her in segregation represents clear violations of her legal rights, and of her right to safety and due process.

I am demanding that Maricela Rueda be released into general population immediately.”
