Hi, this Larry Stromberg, and this is my poem, “The Voyage Home.”
The Voyage Home
Conceived in the womb,
Beautiful baby boy,
Honored son,
Loved by his parents,
Protective brother to his siblings.
Trusted friend,
Animal lover,
Athlete,
Ocean dreamer,
Movie fan,
And abused child.
Ashamed and scared,
Supernatural, demonic fear.
Praying for protection from above.
Mental health develops.
Becomes an actor,
Writer,
Future filmmaker,
Pretending the pain away.
Dreamer of success,
Career seeker,
Succeeder.
And he fell in love with his future wife,
Loving husband,
Future father,
Happiness.
Making a name for himself.
Director of the film, Spiritual Warfare,
Premier of his own life.
Abused,
Betrayed all over again
By the ones that he trusted most.
Mental health rising,
Losing control of his world,
Snapping beyond his control,
Falling from grace.
High profile case.
He becomes a convicted murderer.
Inmate in a Pennsylvania State Prison.
Remorseful man,
Deep in his soul.
Depressed in the penitentiary.
Medication and therapy
For years and years.
He takes programs.
Faith believer
In the creator above.
Becomes a prison stage writer,
Actor,
Director.
Loser of loved ones,
One by one.
Freedom fighter,
Appeal after appeal,
Commutation,
Seeking redemption.
Villanova University College student,
Certified peer support specialist, CPS,
Restorative justice
And Just Listening facilitator,
Education for ministry student,
Professional playwright,
Hoping for blue skies
And second chance
Back to his voyage home.
His voyage home,
decades and decades later.
A remorseful man,
He becomes a better man
Hoping for his voyage home.
