This is Steven Lynn Nicholson here in Jackson, Michigan. Just got a little poem for you guys. As always, support prisonradio.org. Support University of Michigan Prisoner Creative Art Project, anything like that. I mean, anything that’s doing something to help us is good to support, but don’t forget prisonradio.org This poem just is called simply “Makes Me Special.”
Makes Me Special
I am not the old me.
I am the only me.
I am the new me.
Who me?
Yes, you, Steve.
No longer will you be cheese,
Chee, with a z,
Putting people to sleep from beefing in the streets.
I am aware of the good in young Steve.
Yes, young Steve was a good little block of cheese,
But was locked away to be aged like good Gouda,
But the mold spores bore holes and broke the core.
I am a soldier of war, and even PTSD
Didn’t eliminate the love and charity breathed in me as a little shorty.
I am anointed.
Steve means crowned one,
And with life I’m not done.
I am here to have fun and love even the rough ones.
When your loved ones become the tough ones to love,
That’s a tough one.
I am that one to love,
That one.
I look for dirt to find a ruby, for I know my duty.
My cross, I hold on.
My mind is not like duty,
For I find things tight to grind,
Assisting my child.
Both wild and night fights, so I submit.
Just submit.
