Hi, everybody. This is Steven Lynn Nicholson in Jackson, Michigan. I’m here again promoting and asking for support for prisonradio.org, University of Michigan, Prisoner Creative Arts Program. Great organizations as always.
This poem is specific to a special project that Prison Radio is doing to promote Prison Radio, if I’m not mistaken. So, you can look into that more. I call this poem “Masterpieces.”
Masterpieces
Am I a master of artistry known as poetry,
Or am I just a symphony of whistling against brutality?
Illegality cannot be attributed to humans
In a land obtained criminally, vehemently.
As with botany, planted seeds grow all sorts of things,
And unplanted weeds choke out good things.
Leave them be and treat the needs
Or risk killing the good seeds.
We are the human mania.
Call us the order of the man today,
Like the female Mantis,
But we don’t prey.
We treat the lesser-thans as prey.
Day by day we slay,
And not just on the fashion runways.
Those “Off with their heads” was the Middle Ages way.
Today, we just diminish the brain waves.
Oh, no.
Brains washed with Paydays and pay days.
The sugar game,
The cane game,
Sugar cane,
Cocaine,
Membranes insane from trained brains.
Lame brains we need retrained.
An imbalance in the game of life.
Life has crossed our wires.
So, these prisons got these frequent flyers.
Violence magnifiers are not just the ones who fire
But the liars creating love deniers.
Call that murder for hire.
No doubt we’re caught up in the spider webs.
And we need the cooler heads to prevail,
Cuz, the fear-filled flail when we uprise
And our brilliance sails.
So, come sail away with me.
I know a supply that supplants and denies
All the guys who try to deny
The good life for every class of life.
But we are classic, like Coke
And so, all them bears, I poke
In an effort to expose that the level of class
In the so called upper class
Is nothing but ass.
Nevertheless, with open arms,
We’ll teach you and lift you like a last.
Ding. Ding, Welcome to class.
That’s “Masterpieces.”
