Mr. Larry Stromberg, SCI Phoenix, in Pennsylvania. This is my poem entitled “The Mad House.”
The Mad House
Prison is pure chaos.
Don’t let anyone tell you different.
From the consequences of wrongdoing,
Against society,
Against humanity,
Against the divine,
The ones with criminal mentality,
Mental health illness,
Addiction,
And the innocent ones
Packed into a large cage of madness.
It’s always been that way for the criminal system in America. The incarcerated and condemned have some choices:
One, become part of the madness.
Two, lose oneself with addiction.
Three, better oneself with whatever educational opportunities And programs available
While fighting for freedom with purpose.
The secret in the mad house is staying focused
Year by year,
Month by month,
Day by day,
Hour by hour,
Moment by moment,
With alertness and pure purpose.
That’s how one survives in a mad house.
If I can survive 30 years in a mad house, I guess anyone can.
Have a purpose, have dreams.
It will get you through.
This is Larry Stromberg, SCI Phoenix. Thank you so much. God bless.
