This is Larry Stromberg, SCI Phoenix in Pennsylvania. This is my poem entitled, “The Twist.”
The Twist
A dungeon within a dungeon.
It’s hell on earth in the twist.
One is dehumanized like a caged beast.
Memories pound my brain waves to the point of crazy town.
Fighting to maintain my sanity and my dignity.
Praying for relief from the powers that may be,
Looking to the divine to make some kind of sense out of all the trauma.
Where the hell is the humanity at?
Please, someone tell me.
Nobody cares, truth be told.
Looking for my purpose as the condemned.
Needing peace of mind in all the chaos,
Begging for someone to help me.
How is there still a sparkle in my eye?
Doesn’t make any sense, any logic.
It must be the fighting spirit living within me,
The spirit of my ancestors.
Till I’m free from it all
Some, some sweet day.
That’s the twist.
