Hi, it’s Larry Stromberg, SCI Phoenix in Pennsylvania. This is my poem, entitled “To my Younger Self.”
To My Younger Self
I would tell my younger self to think deeply before you react.
You have no control about your abusive childhood.
It’s not your fault, what the others did.
Today, get the help that’s truly needed to survive,
To make wise life saving decisions.
Love your family more.
Help them with everything.
Time shows no mercy to no one,
Out in society and for the incarcerated.
Time moves.
Time takes.
Follow your dreams,
Enjoy nature.
Gaze at the sunsets more.
Yes, reach for the stars.
Walk long walks on the beaches
And walk your dogs even longer.
Travel the world.
Write even more.
Love sincerely to be true to yourself.
Appreciate the ones that love you.
Kindness and respect with a pure heart
Is your life’s code of ethics.
Keep the faith.
Increase your education.
Please, walk away from all chaos.
Forgive and live.
With that, the regrets will be few in between.
Enjoy your life because you only have one.
One life.
Larry Stromberg, SCI Phoenix. Thank you so much.
