Fanon: Now More Than Ever

Greetings!

We need Fanon for this moment.

This moment of ICE aggression, repression, and growing forces of right-wing terror, Frantz Fanon’s analysis of power, resistance and human dignity offers not just critique but a roadmap for action.

Join me for this incredible opportunity to study Frantz Fanon with Philadelphia’s DuBois Movement School.

You can participate virtually or if you’re local to Philadelphia, in person at 4950 Springfield Avenue.

“Hello Abolition School community, just a quick message to let you all know that our FREE Spring Semester Hybrid Program starts Wednesday February 4th. This is a great opportunity for those of you not in Philly to plug in with Abolition School education programs, so please register TODAY.”

Why study?

Political education matters because consciousness does not emerge spontaneously — it is forged through struggle, collective analysis, and disciplined study that links lived experience to historical forces.

Fanon taught us that “Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it in relative opacity.” To engage with Fanon today is to confront the structures that limit freedom and to imagine a world where liberation is truly possible.

May we never forget his lessons.

Honoring our Revolutionaries: Mumia on Fanon

The Wisdom of Frantz Fanon

(2:38)

Mumia Abu-Jamal

Frantz Fanon was a psychiatrist, revolutionary and theorist whose work exposed how colonial violence reshapes both political structures and the inner lives of the colonized. Writing from the frontlines of anti-colonial struggle, he argued that liberation is not only a political act but a psychological one. Fanon remains urgently relevant because the afterlives of empire – racialized policing, structural inequality and internalized oppression still organize our world. To read Fanon is to confront how power works on bodies, minds, and movements.
