Meet Our New Correspondents: Voices from Inside the Walls

Hello Jennifer,

We are honored to introduce you to a group of courageous new correspondents who have shared their powerful stories through Prison Radio. These individuals, calling from facilities across the country, are shedding light on the systemic injustices they face and advocating for change. Below, we summarize their plights, their fights, and how you can help elevate their voices by supporting Prison Radio.

Jermaine Dickerson (MCF Stillwater, Minnesota) is battling multiple chronic illnesses, including Crohn’s disease, kidney issues, pulmonary nodules, and chronic back problems, exacerbated by the prison’s unsanitary conditions, poor food quality, and inadequate medical care. Despite meeting all criteria for medical release under Minnesota’s policy 203.200, his requests are repeatedly denied, putting his life at risk. Jermaine is fighting for a medical release to access proper care and survive his conditions.

Stephen Carl Allwine (MCF Stillwater, Minnesota) is exposing prosecutorial misconduct in his case, specifically the perjury of forensic expert Mark Lanterman, whose falsified credentials and lies were pivotal in securing Steven’s conviction for his wife’s murder. Steven is fighting for accountability, urging the state to investigate these violations under Brady v. Maryland and Napue v. Illinois to overturn his wrongful conviction and ensure justice.

Todd Robinson (Allegheny County Jail, Pennsylvania) endured seven years of pretrial detention before being acquitted of assault charges stemming from an officer-involved shooting. He is calling for a public demonstration to petition Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro to address systemic abuses in the criminal justice system. Todd is fighting for governmental accountability and reform to prevent others from enduring similar injustices.

Donnell Hickman (Red Onion State Prison, Virginia) has spent 25 of his 27 years in prison at Red Onion Supermax, where he faces inhumane conditions, including “ghost trays” with no food, extreme temperatures, and staff abuse. Recently, a planted knife charge extended his long-term segregation, and untreated migraine headaches threaten his well-being. Donnell is fighting to expose the truth about Red Onion’s abuses and secure humane treatment for himself and others.

Jacinda Lee Allenbaugh (Harlequin) (SCI Green, Virginia) is challenging Pennsylvania’s Violence Reduction Initiative (VRI), a punitive lockdown policy that confines prisoners to their cells for at least 36 hours after certain incidents, halting all programming and services. HarleQuinn argues that VRIs are inhumane and unconstitutional, failing to reduce violence as claimed. She is fighting for exposure and legal action to end this policy.

How You Can Help: By supporting Prison Radio, you amplify these voices and help bring their stories to the public. Together, we can elevate these correspondents’ fights for justice, dignity, and reform.

Thank you for standing with us and our correspondents in this critical work.

This is what Prison Radio is about. Creating platforms where people inside can speak truth, share wisdom, and be heard—not just as prisoners, but as leaders, thinkers, and community voices.

But here’s the bottom line: we only exist because of people like you.

We don’t survive on giant grants or corporate sponsorships. Prison Radio is grassroots, people-powered, and held afloat by small, steady gifts from our community. It’s $5, $10, $25 a month from dozens, then hundreds of people, that keeps the mic open.

If this mission resonates with you, please consider becoming a monthly donor. That steady support helps us stay independent, resilient, and accountable only to the people we serve.

  • $10/month helps us record and share more voices
  • $25/month keeps letters like Joseph’s moving through the prison walls
  • $50/month means more young people inside can be heard—maybe for the first time ever

Become a monthly donor now.

With your help, we can continue to amplify voices that would otherwise go unheard, and help them reach one another, and the world.

In Solidarity,

Prison Radio Staff
