Walk Free or Keep Fighting? Phone Zap for Ivy Kelly!

Greetings!

“I have been refusing time served offers for four years now, waiting on true justice.”

These words are from Prison Radio correspondent Ivy Kelly who says he was wrongfully convicted for the murder of his best friend. Kelly was offered a terrible choice: take his freedom and accept the State’s lie, or remain in prison, and fight to bring the truth to light. Remarkably, he is sacrificing his personal freedom to expose the injustice of his wrongful conviction. And he reminds us that he’s not the only one:

“Cook County leads the nation in wrongful conditions…my entire case is built on the credibility of a corrupt officer and a paid informant.”

Kelly speaks with a clear and urgent voice. His refusal to sign onto a narrative he knows is a lie puts Cook County on the spot.

Kelly will be back in court on Nov. 2nd and your support and advocacy make a difference!

Participate in a phone zap every Wednesday.

You can also send letters of support.

Use this script when calling:

“Hello, I am calling on behalf of Ivy Kelly, #20230815112, to demand that the State’s Attorney Eileen Burke drop Ivy’s charges immediately. Eileen Burke and her office have stolen years of Ivy’s life and forced him to endure the hellish conditions inside CCJ by continuing to pursue murder charges on a man who is obviously innocent. The corruption that took place during Ivy’s initial trial is egregious:

  • Were you aware that the state’s star witness, Chris Lacy, was paid for his testimony?
  • Were you aware the 2nd lead Detective in Ivy’s case Terrance Franklin was under federal investigation for corruption and facing state charges for assault?
  • Were you aware that statements existed from the night of Joe Ward’s murder that were exculpatory in nature and not tendered to Ivy’s defense?

These are just 3 examples of the widespread corruption present in Ivy’s prosecution. All of these warrant his entire case dismissed and a full exoneration!”

In the face of callous indifference, our solidarity matters.

Stand with Ivy Kelly, his family and his community who are up against formidable forces of state power, bureaucratic indifference, and institutional injustice. It is a system with enormous resources to punish, but very little capacity for compassion, accountability, or justice.

Support Prison Radio so we can continue recording voices from inside. We can only continue to record these voices if we keep our own bills paid.
