“Another school, another massacre.”

We thought foolishly that the school killings in Florida were a turning point. Demonstrations across the country raged against mass murders, the National Rifle Association gun lobby, and impotent politicians wanting to pray rather than pass laws to protect children.

Until now, until a teenager in Texas spurned by a girl explodes at a high school and sends 10 people to the next world. Here we go again. No national politician, from the president to local mayor, has a clue, not one. This is America at the first quarter of a new century. Nothing even comes close. We tire, for it’s all too familiar. Young men: lonely, alone, and unloved, fueled by explosive testosterone, turns school grounds into the wild, wild west and teach lessons of death in classrooms, launching themselves, if they survive, into the modern day dungeons of prison and loss. What can we do? Nothing. Nothing. Until wait, until the next time.

From imprisoned nation, this is Mumia Abu-Jamal.
