For several months, Prison Radio has been receiving and amplifying the voices of women calling in from Huron Valley in Michigan. They've been consistently reporting on the overcrowding, mold, sexual harassment, inadequate healthcare, and much more. Although Women's Huron Valley has been problematic with its overcrowding and abuse long before COVID, the pandemic has exacerbated the problems and has made it much more urgent for us to take action. These conditions have led to a COVID surge at Huron Valley. According to the Detroit Free Press, the facility "constitutes 60% of all known cases [of COVID] among the incarcerated in the state."

We need to take immediate action. There will be a protest rally on Sunday, January 16th at Women's Huron Valley. Please rally and show up if you are in the Michigan area, and share this flyer with people you may know in the area.

This highlights the urgency of Mumia's situation. We need to act to get him out. @lovenotphear is leading the charge in a campaign to change the public narrative around Mumia and to show the people of Philly and the world that he is a righteous man and deserves to be free.

2021 was a momentous year for Prison Radio, and we

2021 was a momentous year for Prison Radio, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you. You have stood right beside our correspondents willing abolition into being. You’ve proven that our radical momentum—from the resurgent protests of last year to the historic struggles of the last century—continue. It is a long walk but we are nearing freedom. Here’s what we were able to accomplish with you by our side.

We published Perfecting Tyranny the third installment in Mumia Abu-Jamal and Stephen Vittoria’s Murder Incorporated trilogy, a epic project that interrogates and exposes the inherent violence of empire. Through thousands of pages of poignant commentary, Mumia and Stephen have created an insightful and fundamentally insurgent message.

This year correspondents, both new and old have shared with us their powerful stories of repression and resistance. In April, we aired commentaries from Naykima Hill and her comrades who continue to stand up to horrific mistreatment at Women’s Huron Valley. We’ve also aired the incisive poetry and rap of Izell Robinson, the deep essays of Uhuru Rowe, and the eloquent analysis of William Noguera. Of course, our most prolific correspondent is Mumia as he speaks prolifically on the most pressing issues of our time.

Prison Radio remains committed to fighting for the freedom of our friends and family who remain trapped behind bars in the belly of the beast. For 30yrs we have accompanied our correspondents. In 2022 we promise many of them will come home. We hope that you continue with us. Again, absolutely none of our work would be possible without you. For that, we are grateful.
