Hi, It’s Larry Stromberg, SCI Phoenix in Pennsylvania. This is my speech, “Larry Stromberg, The Actor in Prison.”
My name is Larry Stromberg, the prison dramatist. I staged over 100 plays during my decades and decades of incarceration. In fact, I’ve written, directed, acted and staged dozens of plays before my incarceration. My first play was entitled, The Wrong Bank,, which was staged at Lansdowne Theater in Delaware County in Pennsylvania. It’s about a guy who robs a bank, but the bank ends up being a blood bank, so it was a great time to do, so. Other plays I’ve acted in were Death of a Salesman, Arsenic and Old Lace, Richard the Third, Harvey, Our Town, The Change is Going to Come, Dialing for Murder, Charlie and Algernon, and Tony and Tina’s Wedding, to name a few.
I studied acting in Philadelphia and New York, acted in many films, including, Blades, Money for Nothing, with John Cusack, Master Race for Mars, I Don’t Buy Kisses Anymore, 12 Monkeys are some of the films on my credits, on the International Movie Database. My film, Spiritual Warfare, that I acted, wrote, produced, and directed, is distributed online with full subtitles on YouTube and soon on fearpix.com. I still have my Sag-Aftra card an when I get back into society, by the grace of God, I can resume my acting professionally on film and back on the stage. I hope and pray I’m given that opportunity someday. The truth be told, my plays saved my life when I came to prison for something I’m very remorseful for. It gave me purpose being in the cage and searching for our redemption.
When you find something you love to do, you never worked a day in your life. You can feel free no matter where you are, where you’ve been, what you’ve done. It becomes a spiritual connection. I enjoyed being a Villanova student here at SCI Phoenix in Pennsylvania, being a CPS-Certified Peer Support Specialist, a student of EFM-Education For Ministry, a restorative justice just listening facilitator as well. My play, Behind the Dark Gray Wall, was staged in Georgia last year. It can be viewed on YouTube for the world to see, and I’ll tell you, I’m excited about that. I’m awaiting a publishing deal for the play soon. I’m traveling this road of redemption. Hope we all travel the road of redemption. That’s where we find our true calling, our purpose, our joy, our peace and our future. So I say, keep on traveling. Our destination awaits. This is Larry Stromberg at SCI Phoenix. Thank you so much.
