Mumia Abu-Jamal

We have heard just hours ago, just moments ago actually, about the Killing of Anas Al-Sharif, a correspondent for Al Jazeera, who was killed in Gaza in a tent, with four colleagues. This was called, proudly, by the Israeli Offense Force, “a targeted assassination“ and they claimed that he was “a hidden member of Hamas as were his four colleagues.“  Well, they don’t count. They were with him, and for being with him, this brave and talented journalist was slain with four other journalists. Being a journalist in occupied Palestine is a capital offense, it appears.

Telling the world about how Zionists are killing children and women, and old men trying to get a mouthful of bread in this mass starvation event, is a capital offense. Telling people what is happening in their homeland, is a capital offense. What about “free press?” What about the right of journalists to tell the stories about the communities in which they live and where they suffer and where they die?

I don’t wanna hear about a First Amendment. I don’t wanna hear crowing by corporate media that knows how to bend its knee and bow to fake kings but cannot tell the story of the suffering of nearly a million people. I am deeply proud to share my voice on behalf of Anas Al-Sharif and his colleagues and for the struggle in Palestine which moves us, even though we’re miles and miles away and united by the beats of our hearts. With love, not fear, this is Mumia Abu-Jamal.
