“The Power of Movements.”

When people join together, their power is multiplied. This simple fact has animated every popular movement in Black American history. That means the only time black folks in America have made a step forward, there was a movement behind it.

That’s because movements break new ground. Movements open doors that have been locked shut for generations, for movements open hearts and minds. Movements transform people from individuals into parts of a collective. Movements make history. Movements bring change.

In fact, it is only movements that bring change, for movements are a social force, a site where many demand the few in power to change and keep pace with the times. Movements work. Movements matter. They change minds, [inaudible], and consciousness itself.
