Hi y’all, this is Bambi again, just wanted to give an update on my situation of being here in this federal holding facility.
There has been a lot of disturbing, like, I really I don’t even know how to explain it. There, there’s a thing that they refer to, and it’s called a legal term and it’s called a blanket policy. And this jail, it seems, has a blanket policy that they say that all staff members, officers, anybody that works here, that if a transgender has the male anatomy, that they are to refer to you as a man. It doesn’t matter what you identify as, they just do not recognize your gender, they don’t recognize it at all.
I used to live here in this town of Grayson County, Kentucky, 17 years ago. And I’m familiar with, just this county is not fond, it is what they refer to as one of them “Good ‘Ole Boy” county towns. And it’s just, it’s horrible. I even tried to request that the head jailer here will allow me to review any policy that they have pertaining to transgenders. And they have refused to let me look at them.
There was even a situation a few days ago, where a deputy was working, where I am at in the jail in the administrative seg, he was working back here and during a conversation that me and him was having pertaining to something else, he kept referring to me as “sir” and “Mr.” I politely asked him not to keep doing that. And his response to it was like something that boggled my mind, and he said, quote, verbatim, “Well, I go by what the Bible says.” And I didn’t know how to respond to that, like how do you respond to something that somebody like that tells you? And, I filed a complaint. And when I filed my complaint, the corporal of the jail, which responds to grievances, he sent it back to me two days later, and gave a response that just says, “I will look into this matter.” And I don’t feel like that’s sufficient enough. This jail is just completely totally out of whack. It’s an ongoing thing, I don’t really know what to do to handle it anymore. I have tried to go to their law library that they provide here at this jail. And during those times that I have, I’ve tried to seek out help from the people that work in the law library, staff wise. They’re not allowed to give you legitimate addresses, they can’t help you with nothing.
And it’s like, how do you do this research, if you don’t know the right things to look for? How do you find proper legal material, out of all the stuff that they have, if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you don’t know what area to look in, and you only have a limited time of a little over an hour and a half, if that. So it’s very difficult, for being transgendered and identifying as a female, being in this jail.
If there’s anybody that can help reach out to me and help me find a civil lawyer that practices civil lawsuits. I have tried to reach out to the ACLU here in Kentucky. I never got any responses. But I believe that it’s due to the fact that a lot of, some of the letters that I have tried to send out has been tampered with. And I don’t understand it. It’s not making any sense to me. I am at a loss for words, and this is an ongoing thing. It just keeps happening and happening and nothing is being done.
When you file your complaints and your grievances, the highest you can go is to the head jailer. And if he’s not willing to do anything, then who is? I’m not really understanding it. But I guess that’s how it is. Like I said in legal terms, they refer to it as a blanket policy. And a blanket policy, the way that it has been explained to me is that it’s a policy that is used to cover up something that they’re really not supposed to be doing, but they do it anyway. And I guess you can describe it as a smokescreen to where it keeps them covered at all times knowing that it’s not right, and it’s wrong.
Like I said, I’m at a loss for words. If anybody can help me with seeking out any kind of attorney, a lawyer, an advocate that deals with civil matters, civil rights, especially the LGBT trans rights, you can contact me here at the jail. At Roger King, my jail number is 27774. The address to the jail is Grayson County Detention Center 320 Shaw Station Rd Leitchfield, Kentucky and the zip code is 42754.
You can write me anytime you want to, doesn’t matter how often you write, but you can write. I’m really in need of civil expertise in the law wise because I’m not up to date with it. And just being here in this jail, not having anybody here in the jail staff wise to be able to help me is just mind boggling. Very much so. Once again, if you want to reach out to me, you are more than welcome to and it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a nice day.
