It is a wonderful and joyful thing to hear that Leonard Peltier will now spend
his last days outside of the iron cage, that iron cage that held him for almost
five decades. He will breathe the air that he breathed as a young man. He will
be surrounded, hopefully, by his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.
He will live among his people in South Dakota, where he lived his youth as a
member of the American Indian Movement. And he will be remembered as a
warrior for his people, a fantastic artist, a loving member of the human tribe,
and a man who stayed true to himself despite all of the infirmities of time
and age. So, you know, good news sometimes comes when we least expect
it. This is a good day.
