A multitude of white hate groups gathered to rally Friday (8-11-17) in Charlottesville, VA in opposition to a local campaign to remove a statue of Confederate civil war General Robert E. Lee from Emancipation Park. Lost on the white hate group protestors was the fact that General Lee fought against the emancipation of Africans kidnapped and forced into chattel slavery. Reminiscent of the Ku Klux Klan hate-terror organization of the past, the white hate groups burned torches in the night at Emancipation Park.
White supremacist leader David Duke addressed the white hate groups the following day (8-12-17) at Emancipation Park, urging them to help President Trump “take back America.” This day the white hate groups did not bring torches with them to Emancipation Park to protest. Instead they brought riot gear, helmets, shields, sticks, O.C. spray, and wicked intentions. It was obvious the white hate groups came to fight, not to protest peacefully.
The white hate groups were met with groups of mostly white anti-racist activists who shouted down the hate groups’ claims of white supremacy. What ensued thereafter were bloody acts of hate and terrorism. One white terrorist plowed his car into a crowd of white and black anti-racist protestors in the street, killing a young woman and seriously injuring 10 more people. White hate groups physically attacked anti-racist protestors. Large groups of men and women brawled in the open while Charlottesville police did very little to stop the violence.
In response to the Charlottesville terror and hate attacks, President Trump said nothing about David Duke and failed to condemn the white hate groups responsible for the violent interactions. Instead of denouncing the violent actions of the hate groups, President Trump chose to minimize the hate groups’ violence by sharing blame on the anti-racist activists. All of this reinforced the beliefs of white hate groups that President Trump is on their side.
Nothing good will come from the Charlottesville terror attack by white hate groups. When everything is said and done, there will still be two Americas – one white and the other non-white. And with a whole lot of white supremacy in between.
