Wilbert Sanders

This is Wilbert Sanders as Jazz the Poet with “Guilty Until Proven Innocent.”

As a means in protecting the innocent
From criminals with bad intent,
Torture chambers, in prisons, are built
To confine and punish those judged with guilt.
Misleading procedures are then used
prior to condemning the accused.
At times, defendants are given a chance
to explain their situation or circumstance.
Depending on an individual’s case,
Courtrooms become a dreadful place
Consisting of prosecutors and DAs,
Informants and witnesses with hearsay
Who may blatantly lie on you.
The judge or jury decide what’s true.

Another problem I must mention:
Officials also have bad intentions.
They tamper with evidence, falsify reports,
Cause biased decisions within the court.
Since the holders of authority lack integrity,
Innocent people are convicted wrongfully
And are often victims of the death penalty.
The poor receive inadequate legal defense,
making it complicated proving innocence.
Then in order to overturn a conviction,
There are so many legal restrictions.
It’s difficult having a case be tried.
Majority of times, requests are denied,
Resulting in many innocent men confined
Inside state and federal pens;
Railroaded by courts in the prison industry,
Castrated from society and family.
In reality, it matters not how you plead;
Automatically you are assumed guilty
Unless capable of proving otherwise,
Make preparations for your demise.

Thank you.
