On March 4, 2024, Attorney Bret Grote and Abolition Law Center along with the Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project, and Dechert LLP, filed a statewide class action lawsuit regarding solitary confinement and Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Hammond vs PA DOC, in the United States Eastern District Court of Pennsylvania, seeking an end to prolonged solitary confinement, solitary confinement [opinion links – unclear] for anyone with mental health diagnosis and indefinite solitary confinement opposed without due process, such as the restricted release list. As a restricted release list prisoner in the intensive management unit and subjected to prolonged solitary confinement, otherwise known as the hole, for the past 11 years in the PA DOC, one of numerous class of prisoners for which this action pertains to, we look forward to our just relief, reparations, and light at the end of a long, dark, lonely tunnel for which we suffer. Thanks to you, Mr. Bret Grote and the Abolition Law Center team, the Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project and Dechert LLP. In solidarity, prisoner Derrick Gibson, prisoner number JP-2190 SCI Camp Hill, IMU, Canfield, PA.
