Wilbert Sanders

This is Wilbert Sanders as Jazz the Poet with a piece I call “The Killing Fields.”

Instead of providing safety to communities,
Police are executing Blacks and minorities.
Inner cities are concrete killing fields
With ruthless cops behind unjust shields.
In 2015 police killed more unarmed Blacks
Than U.S. soldiers have in Iraq.

We reside within a twisted society
Where police brutality occurs regularly.
Sadly, there’s no special organization
Penalizing corrupt police administrations.
Courts always let killer cops go free
Because government is actually the enemy.

Preachers and leaders march to Washington,
Light candles, give speeches,
But nothing is done.
So police continue to kill at will
Then hide behind their unjust shields,

Even though we have a Black president
With good intent, he fails to represent.
Obama is more concerned with terrorists overseas
Than injustice within the inner city.
It causes some to disrespect authority
When cops neglect responsibility.

When lives are taken, they can’t be replaced.
The law enforcement is such a disgrace.
As I reflect on our history,
Government always oppressed minorities.
Never care how society will feel
While hiding behind their unjust selves.

That was Wilbert Sanders as Jazz the Poet with “The Killing Fields,” from FCI McKean at Bradford, Pennsylvania. Thank you.
