We know most of our supporters aren’t Carnegie OR Mellon. This is why we deeply appreciate every $5, $10, and $20 check you send us. But when Karen, a divinity student who is the longest continuously incarcerated woman in Kentucky, sends us a check, it hits different.



This $25 check from Karen Brown, who gets paid next to nothing from her work in the chapel, where she mentors younger prisoners, represents a profound act of solidarity and sacrifice. Karen speaks often of feeling silenced by the narrative around her case, and around incarcerated folks in general. Her gift is an expression of gratitude for being able to tell her story, in her own words, with Prison Radio’s help. It is also a gesture of solidarity with everyone inside, particularly those who, like her, will not see freedom without the passage of second chance laws, or clemency from the governor. We are grateful to be able to platform Karen’s work every week on Prison Radio.
