Anastazia Schmid is an activist, artist and graduate independent scholar in the higher education program at the Indiana Women’s Prison who is a survivor of domestic violence and was incarcerated for defending herself but luckily released in 2019. She received the 2016 Gloria Anzaldua Award for her work in gender and sexuality by the American Studies Association, and received the Outstanding History Project Award presented by the Indiana Historical Society. Her work and interviews span multimedia sources including NPR and Slate magazine. She is the co-author of the play The Duchess of Stringtown currently under production both inside prison and out.
